Welcome to ART IN THE HOLLOW 2012
Swede Hollow Park Art Fest: Art in ACTION!
The location. Gorgeous Swede Hollow Park (called St. Paul’s “hidden gem” by journalists), is just a few blocks east of the city’s Lowertown artist area and 120 feet below the streets.
The artists: We anticipate over 50 visual & performing artists, many creating works on site—glass mosaics, murals, sculpture, painted furniture. Plein air (open-air) painters will seek to capture the beauty of the deep, lush ravine, with its ponds and stream, its variety of flora and fauna.
Uniqueness: It’s the only art fair on the city’s entire East Side.
Ethnic richness: A local physician, using replica of a Haitian tent-home, will exhibit photos of post-earthquake Haiti in a canvas tent like the Haitian dwellings he experienced. Here is what we have so far:
10:00 a.m. Mariachi Estrella. Minnesota’s premier music group for Latin,
Mexica regional, & Spanish pop music.
11:00a.m. Kids Sing Along in the Drewery Tunnel, led by Tabitha de Rango
11:30 a.m. The Halau Dancers: Traditional Hawaiian Hula
12:00 p.m. Kalpulli Yaocenoxtli - Warriors of the First Cactus Flower:
dance, drum and songs of the Mexica (Aztec) tradition.
12:30 p.m. Mounds Park American Indian Magnet School Drummers:
A link to the culture of Swede Hollow’s very first residents.
1:00 p.m. Hmong Dancers.
1:30 p.m. Light From Heaven Cambodian Orchestra
2:00 p.m. Chasing Clarence: an original blend of folk-jazz
3:00 p.m. Shinparam Korean Traditional Drum Troupe
